Quesada sits ten minutes from Guardamar beach and 35 minutes from Alicante airport. You will want a car, the AP-7 and N-332 both run close by. April to October suits beach trips, winter suits golf and the nature reserves. The salt lagoons at Torrevieja and La Mata are the single best free thing nearby.
Ciudad Quesada is not the most famous place on this coast, and that is rather the point. It sits inland from Guardamar, close enough to the beach that you are there in ten minutes, far enough that the streets are calm in August. For a lot of our guests it ends up being the better base, even if it was not the one they first searched for.
Here is what is actually worth your time.
Aquapark Ciudad Quesada runs May to September and is the reliable rainy day equivalent for parents, except it is never raining. If you are here with kids between about five and fifteen, budget a day for it.
La Marquesa Golf is the 18 hole course in the middle of the urbanisation. Reasonable green fees compared with the coast courses, and playable all winter, which is why a lot of owners here are golfers.
El Recorral Park is the walking option. Trails and a few viewpoints, best early morning or near sunset. Not dramatic, but pleasant and very close.
Guardamar del Segura is ten minutes away and has the pine forest behind the dunes, which makes it noticeably cooler than the open beaches further south. Good for a long afternoon.
The lagoons at Torrevieja and La Mata are the thing we push hardest. A protected reserve, one lake genuinely pink, flamingos in real numbers, and it costs nothing. Go late afternoon when the light is doing its thing.
El Hondo Natural Park and the San Pedro del Pinatar salt flats are both worth a morning if you like birds or just want somewhere quiet and strange looking.
In Rojales, the Cuevas del Rodeo are cave dwellings turned into artist studios, with open studio events once a month. Odd, small, and much more interesting than it sounds.
Alicante is 35 minutes. Castillo de Santa Barbara for the view over the bay, then the old town for lunch. Easy full day.
Torrevieja is fifteen minutes. The marina, the Salt Museum, and Playa de los Locos if you want a town beach.
Orihuela inland is the historic one, with the cathedral and a lot of fine old buildings. Half a day, and much cooler than the coast in July.
Avenida de las Naciones is the main restaurant street and the simplest answer to where do we eat tonight. Punjabi Palace for Indian, Don Carlos Bar for tapas.
For shopping, La Zenia Boulevard and Habaneras are the two big centres, both inside twenty minutes. The Lemon Tree Market on Sunday is the local one, and better for browsing than buying.
Beyond the water park, Rio Safari Park in Elche and Safari Aitana up in the mountains are both proper day trips. Aitana is the more scenic drive by a distance.
Get a car. Quesada works as a base precisely because everything is a short drive, and that logic collapses without one. The AP-7 and the N-332 both run close.
Alicante airport is 35 minutes on a good run, closer to 50 in August traffic.
Season matters. April to October is the beach and pool version. November to March is the golf, walking and long lunch version, and a lot of owners prefer it.
Quesada attracts a particular kind of buyer: people who want space, a pool and a golf course without coastal prices, and who are happy to drive ten minutes to the sand. It rents steadily rather than spectacularly, with a longer shoulder season than the beachfront because of the golf.
